Wolfsburg star Lena Oberdorf is set to sign for Bayern Munich for a bumper fee after choosing the German giants over English champions Chelsea.

One of Germany's biggest talents, Oberdorf is out of contract at Wolfsburg next year and while her departure will be a huge blow for the two-time European champions, they have at least managed to cash in on the 22-year-old as Bayern Munich have paid her €400,000 (£340,500/$429,000) release clause, according to . The report states that Chelsea were also interested and willing to pay the fee, but Oberdorf instead chose Bayern.

Chelsea have been looking for a top holding midfielder for some time now and there are few better than Oberdorf. However, they'll need to go back to square one following the news that she is to join Bayern.
It's a move that is extremely significant in the context of German women's football, too. Wolfsburg have long been the country's dominant force and reached the Champions League final as recently as last year. But this is yet another sign that power is shifting in the Frauen-Bundesliga, with Bayern having already made a statement with the signings of Chelsea duo Magdalena Eriksson and Pernille Harder last summer.
